Technical information

Detailed guidance on biometric attendance system from our survey and installation team.

Choosing the right reading method

The technology must match the workforce and the environment. Fingerprint devices that work perfectly in an office fail daily in a textile mill or on a construction site.

MethodWorks wellStruggles with
FingerprintOffices, shops, schools — low cost per userWorn, wet, dusty or chemically exposed fingers
Face recognitionContactless, fast, good for large headcountsDirect sunlight and incorrect mounting height
Palm / veinDusty and industrial sites, gloves removedHigher device cost
RFID cardVery fast queues, works with glovesCards get shared — pair with a PIN or face check
Mobile / GPSField staff, sales teams, site supervisorsDepends on the employee's phone and signal

For factories we usually specify face or palm readers at the main gate with card backup; for offices, fingerprint with face as a secondary option.

What the system records and reports

  • In and out punches per employee, with device, date and exact time
  • Shift rules: fixed, rotating, night, split and flexible shifts
  • Late arrival, early departure and short hours, calculated against each employee's roster
  • Overtime, separated into approved and unapproved
  • Leave and holidays, so absence is distinguished from unpaid leave
  • Multi-branch consolidation, with head office seeing every location
  • Exception reports that show only the records needing a decision, rather than thousands of rows

Devices we supply

  • Hikvision face terminals, where attendance and door access share one device
  • Access-control versions that also release a door lock or turnstile

Where we install

  • Factories, mills and industrial units with shift-based workforces
  • Corporate offices and head offices with several branches
  • Hospitals, clinics and laboratories
  • Schools, colleges and universities, for staff and students
  • Construction sites and remote field locations
  • Retail chains with staff spread across many outlets

Implementation

  1. Survey — headcount, shift patterns, entry points and peak-minute throughput at shift change.
  2. Device selection — reading method and quantity chosen for the environment and the queue.
  3. Installation — terminals mounted at the correct height, power and network cabling, door interface where required.
  4. Enrolment — employees registered, which is the step most projects underestimate; we plan it by department.
  5. Rules configuration — shifts, grace periods, overtime policy and holidays entered to match your actual policy.
  6. Training and support — HR trained on enrolment, corrections and reporting, with ongoing service.

What affects the price

  • Reading method — fingerprint is the least expensive, palm and face terminals cost more
  • Number of devices and locations, and whether each needs a door interface
  • Employee count, which affects device capacity and licensing
  • Cabling, network availability and power backup at each point

FAQ

Common questions

Our workers have damaged fingerprints. What then?

Common in textile, chemical and construction work. We specify face or palm readers there, or card plus face where speed matters at shift change — and we check this during the survey.

Can we stop buddy punching?

Biometrics make it much harder — a colleague can’t present someone else’s finger or face. Card-only systems can’t, so we pair cards with a second factor where it matters.
